Being a content creator can be intimidating and a daunting task. When people talk about content creation, the conversation almost always drifts toward the people with millions of followers, the viral stars, the ones who seem to dominate every platform and make it look so easy.

But that’s not the reality most creators live in.

Most of the people doing content creation and building meaningful content online aren’t operating at that scale.

In fact, according to Glassdoor, the median income for creators sits closer to about $63,000 a year. It’s a number that tells a different story about the creator economy, one less about internet fame and more about working professionals trying to build sustainable careers or make a side income.

Creator Economy experts call it the “Creator Middle Class.” It’s the vast group of people who sit between hobbyists and the mega-influencers, journalists, storytellers, and niche creators who may not have millions of followers, but who are doing real work, building audiences, and making the ecosystem possible.

They’re the people doing this after work, on nights and weekends, squeezing creativity into the margins of already busy lives.

They’re the people just getting started, experimenting, learning, trying to figure out what their voice is and who they’re speaking to.

They’re the people building something meaningful long-term despite the dangers of the algorithms.

They’re the heart and soul of the creator economy.

And this newsletter is for them.

Each edition will focus on three things:

1. Tips

Practical lessons on becoming a better content creator, drawn from my own experience making nearly a thousand videos a year; what works, what doesn’t, and what I’m still learning along the way.

2. Stories

Profiles of the people doing some of the most interesting work in the space, not the ones who have already “made it,” but the ones in the middle of the journey, building something thoughtful and real.

3. Thought leadership

Reflections on the creator economy, the rapidly changing world of journalism, and the growing intersection between journalism and content creation.

There will also be a paid tier called The Creator Journalism Playbook, which will include workshops, trainings, panels, and other resources designed to help creators sharpen their skills and build sustainable careers.

The newsletter launches on April 9, 2026.
